Lefkada is an island on the west coast of Greece. It belongs to Ionian group of islands. Even though it’s considered an island, Lefkada is connected to the mainland by a floating bridge so you don’t need to hop on a ferry to get there, unless you’re coming from another island. Lefkada is a real gem. It’s wild and unspoiled. In this blog post I’ll tell you everything about the most beautiful beaches in Lefkada.
Let’s do this! The most beautiful beaches in Lefkada are:
- Kathisma
- Avali
- Pefkoulia
- Milos
- Agios Ioannis – Mili beach
- Megali Petra
- Kavalikefta
- Porto Katsiki
- Egremni
- Agios Nikitas
- Micros Gialos
1. Kathisma beach is located in the west part of the island. You can get to Kathisma by car or by bus. Parking is free, but you have to arrive early in the morning to get your space. If you come later and you can’t find parking space there are a lot of private parkings. The price of the parking is 5 euro a day.
Along Kathisma beach there are many bars and restaurants. I can recommend Areia Beach Bar which has a very relaxing atmosphere which has a pool and lovely white decor. You can also eat here. Another bar is Monato where we had seafood – grilled calamari and pasta with prawns and we loved it. The third bar I recommend is Libre.
Each of these bars along with the others have their sunbeds and umbrellas at the beach, just pick a spot that’s good for you. The prices are from 5-10 euro per set (two sunbeds and a parasol). Kathisma is one of the beaches with an easy access and it has everything you need. You don’t have to worry about bringing food and water with you like when going to other beaches in Lefkada. Some of the most beautiful sunsets can be seen from Kathisma beach.
2. Avali beach is simply stunning. It’s definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Lefkada. You can also get to Avali by car or a bus. There is a smaller parking which is free, but if you don’t come early in the morning you might have to park somewhere along the road and then descend by walk to the beach.
To get to the beach you need to go through a beach bar and down the wooden stairs. What awaits you is the endless blue. The beach is not as vast as Kathisma but there’s plenty of space. Like I mentioned, there is a beach bar with water, sodas, coffee and beer, but the food is simple. What is pretty cute is the exterior of the bar and a small library where you can borrow books from. You can order sandwiches or burgers. Avali beach is wild which means no sunbeds or umbrellas. You need to take your own parasol and towels or whatever you feel like is most comfortable for you. Parasol is a must if you plan on staying longer and you don’t want to get sunburnt.
3. Pefkoulia is a smaller beach but it’s very beautiful. There’s a beach bar called Deck and it has a great vibe. Relaxing music, sunbeds and parasols. There is also a big swimming pool where you can also get sunbeds. This is if you get tired of swimming in the sea or you simply want a change. The price of a set on the actual beach is 8 euro (for two sunbeds and a parasol) and 10 euro in the bar from where you descend the small stairs to get to the beach. This place is perfect for sunset lovers.
4. Milos beach is one of a kind. There are two ways to get to this beach and both of them have a starting point in Agios Nikitas. It’s a small town in the west part of the island. From Agios Nikitas city beach you can take a boat that goes to Milos beach. The boats are going every 15 minutes and the ride is about 5 minutes long. One way ticket is 3 euro per person. Keep in mind that the boats are not driving if the weather is windy and the sea is wavy.
The other way to get to Milos beach is a little more complicated but the views are worth it. From Agios Nikitas you will see a sign for Milos beach and then you’ll go uphill an earthy road. When you get to a point where you can see the beach you start descending. It will take you 15 to 20 minutes. The views from here are absolutely amazing. I wouldn’t recommend this road when it’s really hot and to people who are not fit.
My husband and I walked this road with our dog (the dachshund) and in some parts I had to pick him up (he has short legs :)) and carry him while my husband was carrying our parasol and cooling bag with other stuff. It took us 20 minutes. Milos beach is definitely one of the most beautiful beaches in Lefkada. It’s wild which means you need to take your own parasol, there are no coffee shops or restaurants at the beach but there are sunbeds that you can rent and the price of a set was 20 euro.
5. Agios Ioannis is very close to the capital of Lefkada. It’s a beautiful beach with the cutest beach bar all in white with pretty details. You can also find this beach by a name Mili. This beach is a paradise for windsurfers and we were lucky to come here on a very windy day so we could watch them. There are sunbeds at the beach. When you look at the right while looking at the sea you’ll see old windmills. It’s a beautiful sight to see.
6. Megali Petra is one of three beaches that are connected. The other two are Avali and Kavalikefta beach. They are located near the village Kalamitsi, one of the oldest villages on the island. You can park the car near Kavalikefta beach and then go down and pass the rocky part on foot to enter Megali Petra beach.
It’s good if you have your comfy sneaks on cos the rocks are not that gentle. There are no sunbeds or parasols or any kind of coffee shop or a restaurant. Just pure beauty.
7. Kavalikefta beach. As I mentioned above Kavalikefta beach is right next to Megali Petra beach but they are different. Kavalikefta beach has a certain number of sunbeds available for you to use. When you want to go in the water you’ll find yourself swimming between large rocks which some people like and some don’t. We decided not to stay in Kavalikefta but to go to Megali Petra which is much wider and there aren’t as many rocks as here. Don’t get me wrong – both beaches are amazing, that’s why they’re on my list of the most beautiful beaches in Lefkada.
8. Porto Katsiki is one of the most famous beaches in Lefkada. It’s located in the southwestern part of the island. You can come here by boat which goes from Vasiliki or Nydri or you can just use the 100 stairs to go down. I’m guessing this is not as big of a problem compared to climbing up those 100 stairs. If you ask me – it’s worth it! The boats going from Vasiliki usually go to three beaches – Porto Katsiki, Egremni and Agiofilli and that trip costs between 15 and 20 euro. From Nydri the prices are from 20 to 25 euro per person because the distance to the beaches is a bit longer than from Vasiliki.
You can also rent a boat with captain or without which is interesting because you don’t need a license for driving a boat and the prices for a day are between 50 and 100 euro.
If you decide to go by boat you need to check if it’s going to all three beaches and how much time you will have there because it all depends. You also need to check the time of departure and arrival and when is the boat going to pick you up and take you back to one of those two towns. Boats can be crowded during the summer season so keep that in mind as well. If you’re renting your own boat I recommend a boat with the captain. Otherwise you have to check for winds and many other things before you sail out.
If you’re coming to Porto Katsiki by car you can find sunbeds but only if you come very early. That’s why I suggest bringing at least your own parasol.
When you park the car you will see restaurants and small shops so you can get what you need before going down to the beach. Some of the restaurants will even take your order and bring it to you down to the beach.
9. Egremni beach is the only reason why some people visit Lefkada. It really is a wonderful beach but I loved all the beaches in this island. This beach is only available by boat which leaves from Vasiliki or Nydri. As I said before you can rent a boat and enjoy the day without thinking how much time you’ll have before it comes to pick you up. There was a road to go by foot to Egremni beach but it was destroyed in an earthquake in 2015. After trying to reconstruct the road it was officially closed in 2017 due to rockfalls. There are no parasols or sunbeds at Egremni beach.
10. Agios Nikitas is a small town in the western part of the island and its proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches make it a perfect base for your vacation. The town is very small and so is the town beach. This means it can get very crowded but if you’re visiting Agios Nikitas I suggest you to check out the small beach with clear water. From this beach you can take a taxi boat to Milos beach.
11. Micros Gialos is a small beach in a town called Poros. The water is beautiful and clear and you can see yachts anchoring not far from the beach so their passengers can enjoy these beautiful green waters. Since it’s a town beach you can find restaurants and shops here and rent sunbeds. There is also some space if you want to bring your own parasol. After swimming here I recommend going to Syvota, a small fishermen’s village not far from here. There you can have lunch and stroll by the sea, but I’ll definitely write about it in another blog post.
