I still don’t know if I’ll be travelling anywhere this summer. I know many people won’t. That’s why I decided to make a list of 30 things to do this summer if you’re not travelling. Here they are!
1. Host a barbecue
2. Spend a day by the water
If you’re lucky enough to live close to the beach you know how beautiful it is to spend a day by the water. If not, find a river or a lake close to you. It’s such a nice feeling to just sit by the water and look at it.
3. Go hiking
4. Visit a place in your country you always wanted to see
This is the perfect time to visit some of the places you always wanted to see. They don’t have to be far from where you live. I think this year we all started to appreciate more what our countries have to offer. Explore more of your own “backyard”. I’m sure you’ll have fun doing it.
5. Spend a day in nature
Nature heals. Whether you’re by the river, lake or in a forest there’s a big chance that you’ll feel refreshed and energized by spending the day in nature. You can go alone or invite your friends and even set up a little picnic somewhere. This is one of those things I’m definitely going to do a lot this summer.
6. Go swimming
Even if you don’t live near the beach or a lake or river, I’m sure you have a public or a private swimming pool somewhere near you.
Days spent by the pool are so much fun. When I was a kid I used to spent almost every day of my summer break at the pool with my friends. I still love going to the pool and I do it every summer. In Belgrade, where I live, we also have two rivers and a lake where we can go swimming. That’s why summer in the city doesn’t look bad at all!
7. Have a picnic
Having a picnic is one of the best out of these 30 things to do this summer if you’re not travelling. I’ve been meaning to buy a pretty picnic basket for some time now. Just imagine a summer morning when you’re packing the food into that picnic basket and meeting your friends. All you need is that and a blanket and maybe a bottle of your favourite drink. There are so many beautiful parks in every city I’ve been to, so just pick your picnic spot and enjoy! Don’t forget to take some photos 🙂
8. Go on a road trip
This is one of those thirty things to do this summer if you’re not travelling but it still feels like you are. Maybe you’re wondering what I’m talking about here.
I’m talking about having a day trip or a weekend trip. You don’t have to go far away to see something new and beautiful. Explore your surroundings, find a nice place to stay for one night and you’ll come back home with some new memories.
9. Invite your friends over for lemonade with mint and some ice cream
This is something I’m planning to do these days. I have a nice balcony where my friends and I can have a relaxing afternoon. If you live in a house you can invite a larger number of people and have a great time too.
10. Visit a museum
Museums are almost empty in summer. This is your chance to enjoy your favourite artworks without crowds.
11. Have a board game night with family or friends
Board game nights are so much fun! With the right company and some nice refreshing drinks you’ll have the best time!
12. Visit a farm
This is what I’m planning to do this summer.
There are so many beautiful farms where you can walk in the nature, have lunch and buy some organic produce to bring home. For me, this is the perfect way to spend a day especially in summer.
13. Go for a bike ride or roller skating
If you don’t own a bike or rollerblades you can always rent them. If you don’t know how to ride rollerblades this is the time to learn. Believe me, age has nothing to do with this!
14. Go to an escape room
15. Watch the sunrise
Wake up a bit earlier than usual and go to your favourite spot in the city to watch the sunrise. After that, you can have a nice breakfast and a cup of coffee somewhere outside. This is one of the most beautiful thing out of these 30 things to do in summer if you’re not travelling.
16. Pick a day of the week and make it a brunch day with your friends
Sometimes a busy schedule can keep people from seeing each other regularly. Try to change that this summer and set a day of the week when you and your friends have a couple of hours free and go somewhere for brunch.
Make it a tradition!
17. Go bowling
I used to spend hours bowling with my friends. It’s always fun! I know this is an indoor activity but I think it’s one of the best things to do this summer if you’re not travelling.
18. Have dinner outside
In some cities the restaurants are open again. I’m sure you have a favourite restaurant where you love going no matter the season. If that restaurant has a beautiful garden or a place for outdoor eating there’s nothing more to say except go make a reservation :). You can also set up a nice dinner at your home if you have a balcony or a garden.
19. Read outside
Whether it’s your balcony, park or a coffee shop, just bring that book you’re reading right now and go outside.
20. Have a staycation
Do you like staying at a hotel? Have you ever thought about staying at a hotel in your own city? I think this is a great idea.
You can stay for one night, have a relaxing day at the hotel spa, a nice dinner and a drink. Just changing the environment for a day can mean so much sometimes. If you try this let me know if you liked it.
21. Make a cocktail night at home
Summer nights are perfect for cocktails. You don’t need to have a big garden or a balcony, just invite your friends over and make them some interesting cocktails. I’m sure you’ll all have fun!
22. Go fishing
We all have at least one friend who goes fishing. Call that friend and ask him (or her) to take you with them next time. Fishing can be really relaxing.
You may have to wake up really early in the morning but it will be worth it.
23. Bake something for your friends, wrap it nicely and deliver it to them
Isn’t it nice to surprise someone with freshly baked goodies?
24. Have a day at the pool
I already wrote about how much I love going swimming and I hope you do too! Spending a day at the pool is one of those must do things in summer.
25. Go wine tasting
Wherever you are in the world, I’m sure you know a place that’s close to you, where you can go wine tasting. These places usually have beautiful surroundings so you can bring your camera and take some photos as well.
26. Movie night with friends
This one’s a classic!
You won’t even have a problem agreeing on a movie to watch as you can watch three or four movies. Make some snacks, bring refreshing drinks and enjoy your time. Here are some ideas for movies that are filmed in some of the most beautiful locations in the world. Click here to read more!
27. Visit a new coffee shop or a restaurant
You know that place that opened recently that everyone’s talking about? Or the place that’s not that new but you keep seeing it all over Instagram and you want to go see it? Well, now’s a great time to explore some places you haven’t been to yet.
28. Watch the sunset
This is one of my favourite things to do in summer no matter where I’m at.
Choose a place where you’ll go to watch the sunset from. Invite someone and bring a bottle of wine and two glasses. Enjoy!
29. Take a photo each day and make a summer album
What’s the percentage of people who take photos with their phones every day? I’m not going to Google it, but I’m sure it’s more than 90 percent. I know I take photos every day, so by the end of summer I’ll pick a photo from each day and make that summer album.
30. Make a summer diary
This is where you’ll write the highlight of each day of summer. It will be a beautiful memory when you read it some day in the future.
I hope you liked my list of 30 things to do this summer if you’re not travelling. You can pin this for later if you need a reminder or share it with your friends. I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas in the comments!
