Autumn is the perfect season to get cozy and catch up on your reading. When the days get colder and shorter, we tend to spend more time indoors. I love to get in my blanket with a good book and simply enjoy the afternoon. Here are my recommendations for 10 books to get cozy with this autumn. I hope you’ll enjoy them! Let’s start!
-
A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman
At first sight, Ove is probably the grumpiest man you’ve ever heard of. But that’s not the only thing that describes his character. When starting this book, even though you think you probably wouldn’t want to have a neighbour like Ove, reading it will tell you more about how lovely he actually is. A man called Ove is a very popular book and I usually avoid those. But I wasn’t at least disappointed with this one! Just the opposite! I’m recommending A man called Ove to everyone and I found out a lot of my friends read it and loved it like I did. This is the first one out of 10 books to get cozy with this autumn.

Happy People Read and Drink Coffee – Agnès Martin-Lugand
This is one of the most beautiful books I’ve read recently. It’s a sad and very warm story with an ending you wouldn’t expect. It’s about Diane, a woman who owns a beautiful little bookshop in Paris called Happy people read and drink coffee. You will read this in one sitting and then you’ll want more. I know! That’s why the next book to get cozy with this autumn is the sequel to this one.

Don’t Worry, Life is Easy – Agnès Martin-Lugand
After reading Happy people read and drink coffee (this title is everything btw) I found out that there’s a sequel and I had to buy it. I loved the first book and I knew I was going to like this one too. The story about Diane and her life continues. I really don’t want to go into any details (you’ll notice this in the description of the previous book as well). I just want to tell you that if you want to get cozy, this book will make you feel it, it will make you sad and it will make you smile at the same time.

The Orange Girl – Jostein Gaarder
This is one of the most beautiful books I’ve read in my life. It is translated in 43 languages. The Orange Girl is a book for everyone. There’s not a person I know who read it and didn’t like it. Before he died a father wrote letters to his son, telling him about a girl he once saw on the tram. He was instantly captivated by her.
She was so beautiful, holding a bag of oranges. When the tram suddenly jolted she dropped the bag and oranges were all over the floor. The boy’s father picked them up but she was already gone from the tram. Now the father is asking from his son through those letters to solve the mystery of the orange girl’s identity.
Jostein Gaarder is also the author of Sophie’s World, a world famous book.

The Whisperer – Donato Carrisi
Donato Karizi and his thrillers are something special. If you’re a mystery/crime lover you’re going to love his books. The Whisperer is a pretty dark book, so if you think you can’t handle it, don’t read it. If you decide to read it and you like it (or love it) check out other books by Donato Carrisi.
-
The Shadow of the Wind – Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Carlos Ruiz Zafon has beautifully written this book. The plot is set in Barcelona in 1945. It’s a story about Daniel, the son of an antiquarian book dealer. He is reading a book called The Shadow of the Wind which he loves. When he tries to find the author’s other works he is shocked by the fact that someone is destroying every copy of every book that author has written. Welcome to the story of books, the story about Barcelona’s secrets, the story of murder and love.
If you happen to love this book as much as I did, please be sure to read more from Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I can’t recommend his books enough! This is actually the first book in the series called The Cemetery of Forgotten Books. The second book is The Angel’s Game, the third one is The Prisoner of Heaven and the fourth and the last book is The Labyrinth of the Spirits. So, instead of recommending one book here, I’m recommending four books which I think everyone will love. Enjoy!

The Girl on the Train – Paula Hawkins
Rachel is commuting every day by the same train. On her way to work she is looking out from the window and sees the same people every day. She even makes up stories about them. One day she’ll see something shocking that will change everything. She can’t leave the train at that moment, but she’ll become part of those people’s lives soon.
This book was a New York Times bestseller and it’s my recommendation to get cozy with it this Autumn.
-
The Picture of Dorian Gray – Oscar Wilde
Ok, The picture of Dorian Grey is a classic and one of my favourite books of all times, but it had to be here on this list. This is definitely the perfect choice out of these 10 books to get cozy with this autumn. If you haven’t read it yet, put it on your reading list. I won’t say another thing about this book, except that I know you’ll love it!
-
The Ghost – Robert Harris
This is a story about a ghost writer whose task is to write a politician’s memoires. It is a great thriller and Robert Harris is one of the best-selling English novelists. The Ghost was adapted into a film, directed by Roman Polanski, starring Pierce Brosnan. I have to tell you that I loved the movie as much as I loved the book!
-
The Bad Girl – Mario Vargas LLosa
Mario Vargas Llosa is a Peruvian writer who won the Nobel prize in literature in 2010. Although I read two of his books, I’m going to recommend this one. Some say that this is actually a rewrite of the classic Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. If you read both books I’ll let you be the judge of that.
Thank you for reading this post! I hope you found something new and interesting to read here. Enjoy your cozy autumn days with good books.
